Growing up in my family there was never any talk of going to college. The expectation was that all the kids would graduate from high school. This was considered the BIG accomplishment…I graduated from high school with very poor grades. I had absolutely no intention of going to college. It had never occurred to me that I could go, given my poor academic performance. I have eight sisters and brothers. I am number six. |

Up to this point in my life, my older brother, Kevin, was the only relative to go to college. This includes parent, grandparent, first cousin, or anyone else. To this day, I'm not really sure how I was accepted into college. My mother, however, was instrumental in giving me this opportunity. I may not know how I got in, but I'll never forget how I arrived on campus... |
